Dr Parkinson, who is well known for his pioneering work in spinal cord injury management and spine surgery, was recently asked for comment on the importance of creativity.
Here’s the article:
Creativity is needed in all disciplines. Asked how important creativity is to his work, Sydney neurosurgeon Richard Parkinson answers, “It’s everything. It’s how I solve problems.” We’re sitting in his consulting rooms at St Vincent’s Clinic where he has covered the walls in art. As we talk, he shows me an app he’s developing for patients so they can easily understand their condition and treatment. “The foundation of all brilliance is seeing connections when no one else does,” he stresses. As I leave, he rounds up. “Creativity is so important. It’s the only thing that matters.”
