Cervical Spine Surgery

What is Cervical Myelopathy?

Cervical myelopathy can occur when a very large herniation into the spinal canal places severe pressure on the nerves in the spinal cord and damages them.

What are the symptoms?

In the cervical spine, this myelopathy can lead to:

  • Weakness and numbness, including weakness of the breathing muscles
  • Effects on mobility, including the way you use your hands, walk, bowel and bladder function

This is an emergency and may require urgent surgery.
